Entertaining guests is something I love, well love still doesn’t seem a strong enough word to describe how much I truly enjoy showing my love for others with pretty displays and food. This fall I plan to step up my hostess game a bit more. We can always step up our game, right? When I say step up, I’m referring to the hostess work before and after guests leave, not just the actual hosting. I’ve been known to grab a few things and put a display together under pressure and I want to take a slower more enjoyable approach this season. While a soiree size of 10 is fun, intimate and cozy gatherings tend to be my personal favorite. Having a few girlfriends over to chat about our favorite book is my entertaining level preference. Now that it’s officially fall it’s time to plan and prep for your best gals to come over for a fall themed evening in. So, let’s get to work by creating an inviting environment for our best gals to enjoy this season. My top 5 cozy fall entertaining hostess tips and a reminder of how to host like a boss (aka pinable image) are below.
Hostess tip #1: Spend More Time Cleaning Before, Not After
This season I’ll be putting a little more effort on the cleaning before section of entertaining guests. I tend to do a quick pick up before guests arrive, what we term the flight of the bumblebee in our home, notice the kids toys in the background. For my upcoming seasonal girls night in gathering I’ll have the house clean freak clean. In place of the typical quick wipe down, I’m turning things up a notch and cleaning ALL areas of the casa before guests arrive. Why? Cleaning the house (more than a quick pick up) prior to guests arrival is less work for me when guests leave. I find that when guests leave I feel like I need to clean the house from top to bottom, but do I really? If I clean the area I’m serving on prior to guests arriving and the surrounding area (windows, quick wall or surrounding serving area wipe down, kitchen area with possible smells like the disposal, etc) that there is less work to do later. I’ll be welcoming guests with a crisp clean home and all that I have to do when we say our farewells is load the dishwasher and a quick wipe down without the need to hire a cleaning crew. wink. If you’re with me on creating a clean freak clean home head here to print coupons for Lemi Shine appliance cleaner, everyday cleaner, detergent and dish soap. Can cleaning products be super cute? Lemi Shine says yes. For a store locator head here.
Before we dive into my other 4 hostess tips I have to mention a few things about Lemi Shine so we all have a clean freak clean home our guests will gush over. Who doesn’t love a crisp clean casa?
My new favorite cleaning items has got to be the Lemi Shine Disposal Cleaner. I loathe those small areas that can smell from time to time and this cleaner leaves the kitchen smelling fresh. The Glass + Surface Cleaner not only gets the windows clean with streak free shine it also has a dust resistant barrier- um yes, please! For some reason I always have lots of dish soap on hands, I think I’m terrified of running out as I wash things all day long with 2 littles and entertain guests often. I love how the Lemi Shine Concentrated Dish Soap stands up inverted and has a pretty design making it a dish soap you can display always! Lemi Shine totally has you covered for all things cleaning, they even have detergent pods, detergent booster, dishwasher cleaner and washing machine cleaner. Who else gives their washer a needed cleaning occasionally? I’m a total clean freak clean kinda gal.
Now that everything is sparkling clean let’s chat food, drinks and simple party decor!
Hostess Tip #2: Serve A Sip With Style
Hand me a drink in a champagne flute and you’ve just won hostess of the year! The drink you serve guests this fall doesn’t have to be elaborate or even have to contain alcohol, serve a mocktail or fancy seasonal sip in a champagne glass with a fruit accent and you’re set. For this fall soiree I’m serving store bought cider (yes, we can cheat and totally buy cider) with fresh raspberries. Cranberries are another great drink paired option especially sugared cranberries. A red fruit pops against a darker drink color, so have fun with how you serve your sip this season! If you have a go to fall inspired drink recipe share it with me, I’m always looking for a fun seasonal drink to share with guests.
Hostess Tip #4: Keep Decor Small For Cozy Gatherings
I like to go all out when it comes to entertaining guests especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas months, but going all out isn’t always required. For intimate gatherings keep decor small to give more focus on the reason for the gathering rather than hosting an elaborate show. I often hear that large table displays intimidate some hostess’; if that’s you then hosting a smaller gathering is your ticket. Notice how a small displays with ample small decor pieces gives a strong enough presence? I pulled a few of my home decor items (candles and antlers) and combined them with a piece of fabric that paired perfectly with my centerpiece stand display. Get my tips on how to create a stylish cluttered centerpiece here. For colors staying true to the season is always a win! Brown, a variety of orange tones with pops of teal and gold are my go-to colors that say FALL.
Hostess Tip #5: Put Your Spin On Traditional Recipes
My best gals are totally going to love this no camp fire required s’mores snack platter. Who said you had to sit around a campfire to have s’mores? Instead of serving warm s’mores I’ll be offering my guests a s’mores snack platter! If my besties want to create a s’more they can or we can snack on graham crackers or just chocolate or have a bite of chocolate with a bite of marshmallow, whatever combination they want. I’m not sure anyone would turn down chocolate or want to pair a few bites of chocolate with another flavor, so this spin on traditional s’mores is a fun one. When my girls sit down I’ll let them know to dive in however they want… I made sure there’s extra chocolate on hand. Create your own spin on traditional recipes to make it fun.
