We’ve stayed at all Value Resorts, all Moderate Resorts, and 1 Deluxe Resort. Deluxe Resorts and Deluxe Villas are still on the bucket list… we will tackle them in time. Out of all of the Disney resorts the moderate level is our more frequented. We’ve stayed at Coronado Springs more than any other resort (6 times) and we have made the best memories ever at the other moderate resorts. I have another blog post in the works on value resorts that you’re going to love (hint: they’re fun and not to be dismissed).
As #WDW Locals and annual pass holders we soak up the magic as often as possible. Sometimes the husband jokes and says why do we have a house if we never leave Disney. Between pass holder deals and Florida resident prices it’s hard to refuse a resort stay at a fantastic rate. We haven’t had a “vacation” (the type where you travel far far away) in 3 years and that’s simply because we can’t stop won’t stop Disney resort stays several times a year. Our kids are only little once. I’m sure before I know it we will all be too busy with school and extracurricular activities to resort stay as often as we do and the real “vacations” will kick back in. Until then we’re living the Disney dream.
So which resorts are considered moderate?
- Coronado Springs (our favorite)
- Port Orleans French Quarter
- Port Orleans Riverside (second favorite)
- Caribbean Beach
- The Cabins at Fort Wilderness
Here’s our staycation experiences at each one. We’ve been to a few resorts multiple times so this comes from more than just one quick visit. When we stay on property we fully soak it up, it isn’t just a place to rest for us.
I could go on and on about this resort and I often gush about it on Instagram. The food (did someone say nachos?), the pool (our kids favorite), the theme is colorful and relaxing, and the fireworks display from the beach at night is fantastic. We’ve been treated like rock stars each time we’ve stayed on property and the rooms are wonderful. We’ve stayed in the updated rooms (which have wood floors) and we liked them but the classic rooms are our favorite. There isn’t a bad view anywhere at this hotel.
Port Orleans: French Quarter
Beignets! The most delicious food ever, y’all. We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary here and enjoyed it so much. The atmosphere spoke to us and we’ll be back again soon. Like all the other resorts there is an opportunity to watch a movie on the lawn and we loved the lawn area at this resort. The lawn is huge and perfect for picnics and letting the kids play games.
Port Orleans: Riverside
This is a favorite resort for us. Our first born experienced Disney for the first time at this resort and it was perfection. Riverside is larger than the French Quarter and has more of a nature vibe with the water. It’s relaxing, it’s visually appealing, and we love how we feel on this property. We’ve done preferred rooms at this location which include a light up head board with a scene from Princess and The Frog, worth the slight upgrade!
This resort will always hold special meaning because it’s where we spent our engagement weekend in 2006. The resort music (steel drums, yassss!) and tropical food is great! Our boys love the pool and kid zone area at this resort too. The preferred room beds are pirate ships and my oldest (a big pirate fan) was in heaven in the room! Currently the resort is undergoing extensive renovation and the vibe just isn’t the same. Once renovations are complete we will be there!
The Cabins at Fort Wilderness
We’ve only been to this “resort” once and plan on going back again next year. The cabins are adorable and if you’ve been to Fort Wilderness you understand the feeling of nature. Disney did an amazing job making it feel like you’re truly far far away in the wilderness. My favorite thing about this location is not just the vibe, but the boat ride to the park. The nighttime camp fire and s’mores is sun fun for the kids! We stayed during the summer and it was so hot, so hot. When we plan to go again it will be fall or winter. We also stayed with family and while the cabins are roomy they’re not large enough for more than 4 in our opinion. I can’t wait to go back for some unplugged time in the woods.
Which moderate level resorts have you stayed at? Do you do Disney Resort Staycations as often as we do? Disney Staycations are life, y’all.
Happy traveling and remember experiences always beat things!
